Description: Horse racing is a popular pastime for Chileans and during the summer month of February, this event draws tens of thousands of race enthusiasts to see the annual running. The race mimics traditional British races in the format of its arrangement as well as the traditional dress and behavior of attendees. Travelers to the city for the derby should put on their best togs, place a bet on their favorite runner and enjoy a day at the tracks. The thoroughbred race is held each year in the Vina del Mar region of Santiago. Although the race is on Sunday, parades and social gatherings get a head start on Saturday.
