Weather

Santiago is located in the Central Region of Chile and enjoys atemperate, Mediterranean climate, which explains in part why 82% of the population resides in the capital.

This part of the country has 4 clearly defined seasons that are comparable to the climate in California, USA. Namely, mild spring and summer seasons (September thru March) which are never humid and temperatures range between 20°and 32 °C (70°-90° Fahrenheit); autumn has gentle breezes and although there are fewer sunny days, it is still quite pleasant. In winter, (June thru August) one rarely sees temperatures fall below 2°C (34°F), and it snows only in the mountains because by the time it reaches Santiago the elevated temperatures in the valley only allow for rain.

If traveling to Chile in the winter, we recommend you bring with you clothing and accessories suitable for cold weather such as wool wear, raincoats and umbrellas, and the same as a precaution for the fall.

The humidity rate in Santiago is very low, thus reducing the chill factor of the most extreme temperatures.
